Well, we had kind of an eventful weekend. Saturday started out fine, the weather was nice and now that we're all finally feeling better David couldn't wait to get outside. Chris and I told David that he could ride his bike outside on the basketball court as long as he followed mom & dad's rules. (Don't go past Will's house. Don't go near the pond. Don't go past the basketball court. Don't go in the parking lot. Use good manners.) He promised he would. He did pretty well for a while, he played with a little boy who lives down from us a ways. They had lots of fun playing with bikes and scooters. They played basketball and soccer. They ran back and forth between David's room and Ryan's room searching for more toys to play with. David came home and said that Ryan had a cool phone in his room that was from the movie "the Incredibles", then he said that they were going to play some more after lunch. A few minutes later there was a knock on our door and it was Ryan and his dad. Ryan's dad was coming over to let me know that the boys had been playing with Ryan's phone and apparently called 911!! A police officer had come over to Ryan's house and talked to the boys and then to Ryan's dad. I was so mortified!! David never plays with the phones here! I think Ryan's dad was kind of upset, he said that Ryan never uses his phone (kind of implying that it must have been all David's idea). I apologized several times and then had a talk with David about emergencies and when it was okay to use the phone to dial 911 after they left. I understand Ryan's parents being upset, but I think they're not used to Ryan having friends over so they haven't figured out yet that children will come up with (and act on) ideas, when playing together, that they would normally never think to do on their own. (My parents can attest to this!!)

Later the boys went back out to play (I heard Ryan telling David "my dad says you don't come to my house anymore." Hmmm. The boys can just play over here and I'll keep an eye on them.) Every few minutes I would peek out and make sure that they were staying on the basketball court. Once when I peeked out I couldn't see them. I walked down the sidewalk a bit, but still didn't see them. They were in the parking lot playing! I told them that they needed to be done playing outside because they weren't following directions and as they were walking back down the sidewalk past me a dad who was playing basketball with his two daughters came over and told me that the boys had been throwing pine cones at cars in the parking lot!! (Lovely, I have apparently raised the delinquent child in the neighborhood!) David and I had another (longer) talk when we got home and I told him he wasn't allowed to play outside here unless I was outside with him for a while because he wasn't behaving. The rest of the day went okay, David was kind of mopey because he wanted to be outside playing, he and Lauren kind of picked on each other most of the evening. David promised that he wouldn't do any of those things again.

Today the weather was beautiful again. This morning we got up and picked up the messy living room left over from last night (the kids made it look like a tornado went through!) The kids played really well all morning, David even let Lauren play with his toys in his room. (She was sooooo excited!) After Lauren's nap we headed over to the park across the street so the kids could play in the sunshine and get some energy out! They had a great time and wore themselves out.

The kids couldn't wait to get onto the playground. David played "king of the mountain".

David took a camera with him, we're going to go to another park later this week so he can use up his film. Lauren and I played on the swings for a few minutes while David took a few pictures.

David hit the swings and then the monkey bars, he was soooo excited to be outside!
David loves the slides, I just have to watch Lauren because she likes to stand at the bottom and look up. David also likes pushing Lauren on the swing, she's not always so sure about it.
Lauren loves the slides in the little kids portion of the park. She even likes the swings (when mommy pushes.)
Lauren is finally getting to the point where she likes to crawl through tunnels. Last summer we couldn't get her to go through them, now we can't get her out of them!
Lauren loves the toddler playset, she loves being able to climb up the stairs and go down the slide all by herself.
We all had a really good time, but after a few hours we were all pretty worn out and it was starting to get kind of chilly so we headed home. We can't wait to go back again soon!! (And take more pictures!)
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, ours started off a little questionable but ended with a nice family evening. David and I worked on a new puzzle, a pirate ship, (with 100 pieces!) after we got back from the park. David did really well and put most of it together himself. He and Chris put the puzzle together again after dinner. Both kids actually went to bed relatively well tonight. I guess all that running around at at the park worked! We will have more to post soon. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!
Love,
Chris, Megan, David & Lauren

Sounds like quite an adventure you and David were on this past weekend. His great uncle John set a whole field on fire at his age. (Nana and the firemen were not pleased!) Guess your weekend could have been worse --- glad it wasn't.

Love you!!
